Young Audiences

Founded in 1952, the Young Audiences Arts for Learning has today become a source of inspiration for children and young adults. Its main aim is to make art of any discipline a part of education. Young Audiences is a non-profit organization that was founded in Baltimore, Maryland by Mrs. Charles W Collier.

Young Audiences basically gives children and young adults a chance to come together and participate with professional artists of various visual and performing art forms at the school and community level. The network has 30 affiliates that involve 4600 artists with almost 7 million children from 7000 schools across the United States of America. It has also successfully held 67,000 workshops and 3,240 teacher services since its inception almost five decades ago.

Young Audiences was also the first ever organization to receive recognition as an effective platform for learning art at the school level. It was the honorable recipient of the National Medal of Arts in 1994.

Young Audiences Activities

Young Audiences has set an example in arts education throughout the world. It helps by creating learning resources, provides grant opportunities and sponsorships, provides technical assistance and startup grants for new arts-in-education initiatives and provides access to art related information and professionals. Young Audiences also innovates and creates new ideas and opportunities as well as sources new material to that effect on a regular basis.

It generally trains teachers to train students and makes art an intrinsic part of the education system on the whole. The Young Audiences Arts for Learning program has devised a number of effective plans and projects that address the creative needs along with providing ample resources for children and teachers and in some cases families at the school and community level.

Young Audiences has four highly demanded programs that have gained recognition at the national level on grounds of results and effectiveness. They are the:

  • Arts For Learning Lessons
  • Arts For Learning Blog
  • MetLife Dance For Life
  • Arts For Learning Interactive Media
